“I am absolutely loving my morning and afternoon podcast sessions! I’ve just gone from a 16km round trip commute to a 140km round trip commute to work and I’m all about For the Love of Teaching!” – Tara Lee, @remoteteacher

Let’s take a look at how For the Love of Teaching kicked off the new year!

Teaching Gifted and Talented Students

Sarah Gifted and Talented For the Love of Teaching StudentsKnowing how to extend and support gifted and talented students is key for classroom teachers. Listen as specialist, Sarah Weston, gives her top tips for educating high ability students. Sarah shares her definition of what it means to be gifted and talented, her top tips for classroom teachers aiming to differentiate to their highest ability learners, as well as some evidence-based strategies she uses in her opportunity classroom.

Cyber Safety for Kids

Cyber Safety is a critically important skill for today’s leaners. But it’s not something that comes automatically to children, it’s something that we, as educators, together with families, must help them to navigate. In this episode I chatted with the Australian Federal Police’s Clint and Leanne, from the ThinkUKnow program, as well as Trent and Sam, two former primary school teachers who have founded the Cyber Safety Project in an effort to keep Australian kids safe and happy in their online interactions.

Event: Clean Up Australia Day

This month on The Buzz, Jill and I chatted about Clean Up Australia Day. It’s an excellent opportunity to teach our students about environmental issues such as litter and pollution. From single-use plastic to waterway pollution, right through to the dangers that humans’ discarded rubbish pose to our flora and fauna, it’s a great teachable experience with practical connections. Jill and I talk in this episode about the upcoming schools’ Clean Up Australia Day on 28 February and show you just how easy it is to get your school involved. You’ll find plenty of practical resources on the Clean Up Australia Day website, and we have lots of interesting follow-up activities to consolidate learning at Teach Starter!

We also chatted about minimising plastic use in the classroom, and sustainable alternatives to laminating!
