Maths Brain Teasers - Upper Primary

Teach Starter Publishing
PDF | 7 pages | Years: 5 - 7

A set of 10 fun brain teasers for your students.

Give your students one brain teaser a day or a week to try and solve.

As a suggestion, you could have a solutions box at the front of the classroom. Your students would then write their name and answer on a piece of paper and drop it into the box. At the end of the day or week you would reveal the answer.

Brain teasers include:

  • Troll Toll
  • Racing Record
  • Football Frenzy
  • Baking Business
  • Code Cracker
  • Cash Crisis
  • Monkey Madness
  • Fit Firefighter
  • Farm Fun
  • Adding Apples

Could you show me the "working out" for the Baking Business problem, please? Also, could the answers you provide to each sheet have working out in full, please, and not just the answer? Thanks.

    Someone recently asked for the working to Question 1: Troll Toll. Working from the information provided ( we begin with the 3 apples required to feed to dragon): Bridge 5: (3 - 1) x 2 = 4 Bridge 4: (4 - 1) x 2 = 6 Bridge 3: (6 - 1) x 2 = 10 Bridge 2: (10 - 1) x 2 = 18 Bridge 1: (18 - 1) x 2 = 34 apples are required when the prince leaves home. Working backwards from the answer of 34: Bridge 1: (34/2)+1 = 18 Bridge 2: (18/2)+1 = 10 Bridge 3: (10/2)+1 = 6 Bridge 4: (6/2)+1 = 4 Bridge 5: (4/2)+1 = 3 left to feed his dragon! Kind regards, Scott
