A teacher-facilitated introduction to telling the difference between multiplication and division of fractions in word problems.
Students sit in a circle. Students read the problem as a class and secretly write the equation used to solve the problem on a whiteboard. Then ‘1-2-3-Show!’ They show their equations and discuss why they are correct. After deciding the equation for each problem, students work together to solve the problems.
8 problems on cards and a problem-solving recording sheet.
Use in small groups, during guided maths, during tutoring or intervention and in centres.
This activity includes clear and concise teacher directions, problems on cards, a recording sheet and conversation starters that give students what they need to have meaningful academic discussions.
TeachTransform creates fun math activities that get students involved in real math. We bring decades of education experience to the task, and we believe that students learn best when teachers and students are having fun.
