## Valentine’s Day Maths Activities for Early Years

Number comparison activities are a great way to help students see, visualise, and represent numbers in multiple ways. They’re also important for learning how to use and apply numbers. Incorporating comparative activities into your number sense lesson plans is a great way to help students learn this important skill.

This set of Valentine’s Day comparing numbers to 10 task card set puts their comparison skills to the test. Students are provided two numbers between zero and ten to compare. Then students will be asked to compare the two numbers using <, >, or =.

Through this activity, students will show they can count objects up to ten, and compare numbers up to ten using <, >, and =.

## Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your Valentine’s Day maths lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this maths activity to enhance learning through small groups or whole class lessons.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need support by inviting them to reference posters or anchor charts from previous lessons. This activity can also be completed in a small group.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to create their own count and compare problems using counters, or assign them an alternative activity from our Valentine’s Day collection
