Moving Through Maps Game
An activity for students to use when learning about basic mapping skills.
This teaching resource includes a map and accompanying worksheet. This fun activity provides an opportunity for students to begin their studies of Geography by exploring a pictorial map of an area.
This resource is a barrierย game that is played in pairs, with the players separated by a barrier. There is aย speaker and aย listener. Prior to beginning the game, the speaker draws a pathway on the map from a particular house to the playground. They do not have to take the shortest route. During the game, the speaker gives directions to the listener about which roads to travel along to reach the playground. The listener must listen carefully and trace the same path on their copy of the map.
The goal is for the listener to find the same route as that taken by the speaker.
Once the paths have been drawn and compared, mapping skills are further enhanced through the completion of a worksheet where students match up features from the map with their aerial view.
