As a class, identify which of the everyday objects on slide 7 are toys. Encourage the students to justify their decisions as they sort the toys. Discuss the answers on slide 8.
Place the students into small groups. Provide each group with the Alien Grab – Toy Sorting Game. Explain to the students that they must work together as a group to sort and classify the cards, according to whether they are toys, food, cats or shoes. Monitor and support the students as required.
As a class, use slide 6 as a checklist to ensure that all the toy cards from the sorting game have been given to the correct alien. Encourage the students to suggest other items from around the classroom that the toy alien could have grabbed.
Encourage more capable students to assist others and share their ideas during group work and class discussions.
Encourage less confident students to participate in group work and class discussions at a level at which they feel comfortable.
