Read the example paragraph on slide 19. Display and discuss the annotations on slides 20-21.
Display the informative paragraph activity on slide 22. As a class, jointly construct an informative paragraph about one of the subjects displayed on the slide.
Divide the students into six groups. Provide each group with a set of laminated sentence cards from the Informative Paragraphs Sequencing Activity. Explain that each group must work together to reconstruct their informative paragraph in the correct order.
Once everyone has finished, ask one student from each group to read out the reconstructed paragraph to the rest of the class. Ask the students:
Does the order of this paragraph sound correct? Why or why not?
Which words or phrases gave you clues about the correct order of the text?
Why were these words or phrases helpful?
As a class, correctly structure the paragraph used in the tuning in activity.
Encourage more capable students to support others during group work.
