Ask the students to stand in the middle of the classroom. Explain that the front of the classroom is ‘agree’ and the back of the classroom is ‘disagree’.
Choose a topic card from Persuasive Topic Cards – Lower Grades and read the topic to the class. Students then move to the front or back of the classroom, depending on their point of view of the topic. Extend the activity by asking students to provide arguments for each side of the topic.
Provide a small group of students with a selection of the Persuasive Topic Cards - Lower Grades. Encourage them to each take a point of view and debate why they feel this way about the topic.
Allow students who are finding the content of the lesson challenging to work with a partner or peer tutor.
