Could living things still get energy if there was no sun?
Explain the energy cycle, as outlined on slide 6.
Display the independent activity on slide 7 and provide the students with a copy of The Energy Cycle – Worksheet. Read through the instructions with the class and answer any questions the students may have.
Monitor and support the students as they complete the activity. Once the students have finished, discuss the correct sequence of the energy cycle as a class.
Ask students to volunteer to role play the energy cycle for the class. Students will be needed to play the roles of:
a growing carrot
a living thing eating a carrot
a living thing running on the spot.
Encourage fast finishes to independently research how plants make sugar for their own food and energy.
Allow students who are finding the sequencing activity challenging to work in a small group with the support of a teacher or teacher aide.
Suggested Assessment Strategies
