A 60 minute lesson in which students will explore the force of gravity.
Allow the students to make any last minute alterations to their parachutes.
Explain to the students that they will be testing their parachutes by dropping them from a safe, high place and judging (evaluating) how successfully they float to the ground. Remind the students that successful parachutes create a large amount of air resistance which enables them to float slowly through the sky and land gently. Successful parachutes do not plummet to the ground!
Take the class to a suitable location to test the effectiveness of their parachutes. Depending on the time available, the students may test their parachutes one-by-one, or in small groups of two or three students at a time. While waiting for their turn, encourage the onlookers to support the efforts of those testing their parachutes.
