Display the quiz questions on slides 5-13. This could be completed as a whole class activity, or students could work in small groups. Discuss the answers of each question as a class.
Display and discuss slide 14. Discuss the terms ‘crust’, ‘mantle’, ‘inner core’ and ‘outer core’. Allow the students to record these definitions in their workbooks for future reference.
Display and discuss the activity on slide 15. Provide the students with a copy of the Layers of the Earth Worksheet and ahard-boiled egg. Answer any questions about the task, then monitor and support the students as they complete the activity.
Encourage the students to share their observations about the cross-section of the hard-boiled egg and the cross-section of the earth.
Ask the students to share facts about the layers inside the earth that they have learned during the lesson.
Encourage students to research and write additional questions for the quiz about the layers of the earth.
Allow students who are finding the worksheet challenging to work in a small group, with teacher assistance.
