Writing in your own words is your own version of the information and ideas expressed by someone else.

1. Understand what you are writing about

Reread the original sentence until you understand its full meaning.

2. Identify the essential information

Pick out the key words that you will need to use in your sentence for it to make sense.

3. Use synonyms to express the same meaning

Replace verbs and adjectives with synonyms or phrases that mean the same thing.

4. Change perspective

Try writing from a different point of view.
