Applying Reading Comprehension Strategies Unit Plan

Teach Starter Publishing
8 x lessons | Suitable for years: 4 - 6

This English unit is designed to explicitly teach the reading comprehension strategies of activating prior knowledge, making connections, questioning, monitoring, predicting, inferring, visualising and summarising to upper primary students, with a focus on literary texts.

It consists of 8 lessons of approximately 60 minutes duration.

These lessons may be taught as a complete unit of work, or they may be taught individually as stand-alone lessons.

The sequence of lessons and suggested time frames should be regarded as a guide only; teachers should pace lessons in accordance with the individual learning needs of their class.

Teachers are encouraged to collect samples of students’ work throughout the unit to reflect their learning journey.

Excellent resource, would have been great if a final assessment task was included.
