The characters Captain Yet and Pirate Nup have an important friendship. Pirate Nup often finds himself feeling helpless to the challenges of learning. Captain Yet is a fantastic friend who has a way of helping Pirate Nup see that challenges often have solutions; they just may take time. The purpose of Captain Yet is to help students use a growth mindset approach to learning challenges and to use independent, resourceful strategies to find solutions.

In this teaching resource, students are able to write their goals and track the progressions and challenges they have faced. The teacher can use this as a conferencing tool or as a desk plate for students to see where they are at in their learning journey. The blank circles are designed for the teacher to place stickers or stamps on to show where the students are and to conference with the students about where they need to go next. Laminate these to use as a multiple use desk plate, or use as a log tracker in their workbooks. This resource is designed to work in conjunction with Are We There Yet? Captain Yet’s Joyous Journey.

Steps include:

  • start
  • not there yet
  • challenge
  • nearly there
  • success
