Streamline Group Work for Science

Assigning roles to pupils ensures that the responsibilities are distributed equally and ensures accountability for all pupils’ participation. When using role cards to assign jobs, pupils are allowed to practise different roles and develop a variety of skills.

Use these cards to establish roles for pupils to know how they will contribute during a science experiment. The roles pupils will take on through this resource include:

  • Reader
  • Reporter
  • Safety Officer
  • Task Manager
  • Equipment Manager
  • Data Recorder

Easily assign groups with our Random Name Selector Widget!

How to Use Role Cards for Group Work

Print enough sets of the role cards for each group to have one complete set. Cut them out and store each set in an envelope or plastic pouch. When pupils work in groups on a science experiment, give them a set of role cards and have them decide which group member will be assigned each position. Pupils place their role cards in front of them as a reminder of their duties and let you know who is responsible for each role.
