Let’s Be Social – Stories for the Classroom

Social stories are helpful in the classroom for several reasons, particularly in promoting social skills, communication and emotional regulation among students. Let’s check out some ways in which social stories can be beneficial!

Social Skills Development

  • Understanding Social Situations – Social stories are a great tool for helping people understand social expectations and appropriate behaviours in a friendly and approachable way.
  • Learning Social Cues – They help students understand social cues, like someone’s face, how they move and the way they talk. These skills are important for communicating well.

Behavioral Guidance

  • Behavioral Expectations – Social stories can be quite helpful in explaining how students should behave in different situations. They help them understand what could happen if they don’t make the right choices so they can make better decisions.
  • Coping Strategies – These strategies and techniques are crucial to effectively managing challenging situations. They empower students with the skills needed to tackle any obstacle that comes their way confidently.

Get Your Students Lining Up the Right Way!

As many of us have experienced, getting young students to line up properly can pose many challenges. Some students want to be first, some want to be last, and some may even get upset when they don’t get to be in a particular place in the line. Guiding students to know what to expect when lining up is an important social skill they must learn early in school.

Teach Starter has created a printable mini-book to help your students learn about making good choices. Each page displays the information in a simple manner with real-life photographs to help students make connections and understand the prompts.

The last page of the mini-book also asks a question with three picture choices for students to choose from as their answer.

How to Get Your Lining Up Social Story

If you are ready to add this social story to your classroom, head on over to the green download button! Here, you will find the quick-print PDF file and the editable Google Slides document to choose from. If selecting the Google Slides option, please note that you will be prompted to make a copy of the resource to your personal drive before accessing it.

After printing, cut along the dotted lines, stack the pages and staple them together along the left-hand side to secure them.
