Scaffolding + Extension Tips

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource for students to review independently or during group work as an ELA lesson about prepositions or even a science lesson about force and motion.

Support struggling students and challenge learners who are catching on quickly by changing this activity in the following ways:

Below-Level: Limit positional words to two choices.

Above Level: Have students make their own positional word cards by drawing and writing sentences using the terms.

Plus, check out these suggestions for using this activity in other ways!

🛴 Scoot Activity

Place the printed pages around the room in numerical order and assign students or pairs to a starting point. Depending on their abilities, students can either use a numbered sheet of paper to record their answers or discuss with their partner which word belongs. Give students time to review the page and record their answers. Students will rotate to the next page when you say, “SCOOT!” Continue in this manner until students return to their starting point.
