A whole-class game to reinforce your students' understanding of place value.

Use this teaching resource in the classroom as a fun, whole-class game when exploring place value with your students.

Print out the game cards on cardstock for added durability and cut them out. Provide each student with a card. The student with the sentence, ‘I am the starter,’ begins the game by standing up and reading their card. The student with the correct answer on their card stands up and reads their card. The game continues until the last person reads out, ‘I am the last number!’

An instruction sheet has been included with the download.

This activity works well as a math warm-up activity or when you have a few extra minutes of class remaining.

There are 2 versions of this activity for you to choose from:

  • Version 1 – A student reads, ‘Who has 2 tens and 3 ones?’ and another student responds, ‘I have the number 23.’
  • Version 2 – A students reads, ‘Who has the number 23? and another student responds, ‘I have two tens and three ones.’
