MLK Character Traits Worksheet — Curriculum Goals

Students will independently complete this worksheet that supports your lesson on civil rights activist Martin Luther King, Jr.

After reading a biographical text on Dr. King, have your students identify six character traits that best describe him and provide evidence to justify their conclusions.

By completing this activity, students demonstrate an ability to describe the traits, motivations, or feelings of a person (historical or fictional), and explain how their activities contribute to a sequence of events.

Scaffolding + Extension Tips

In addition to individual student work time, use this Martin Luther King, Jr. Day activity as a:

  • Writing center activity
  • MLK biography lesson exit ticket
  • Homework assignment
  • Small group or whole-class review (via smartboard)

Fast finishers can decorate their page with drawings to illustrate their thoughts.

Additionally, students who need more support with these concepts would benefit from completing this worksheet in a 1:1 setting or guided writing group
