Rain Cloud Experiment

Are you looking for a weather experiment that allows young students to explore clouds and rain in a hands-on and engaging way? This classic activity leads students to create a cloud replica so they can make observations and connections about what happens with real clouds in the sky.

This low-prep activity is an easy way to demonstrate to young students how it rains in a hands-on way. You can also have some fun by changing the food coloring!

The Science Behind the Experiment

So what is actually happening when your students are doing this fun experiment? With this cloud-in-a-jar experiment, students learn that clouds are formed with water vapor rises into the air and condenses. When droplets come together, a cloud then forms. Over time, the droplets will become too heavy and fall to the ground due to gravity.
