Introduce your students to the history of the clock, time zones, and telling time with an interactive teaching presentation.

Introduce Your Students to the Origins of the 12-Hour Clock

Are you prepping to start teaching your unit on Telling Time? This year, instead of diving straight into the content, ease your students into the concepts and give them an additional lesson to help them build their background knowledge. Time is an abstract concept to elementary school students, and you can help them understand more about the history of time and related concepts before diving into the math lessons!

Teach Students About the Origins of Time and Its Measurement

Learning about time can help us understand history, culture, and the world better. The Teach Starter team has created a helpful set of instructional slides that can guide you and your students on a journey to learn about time, its history, and how it is used around the world. Whether you teach history, math, or other related subjects, these slides provide an easy way to engage your students in interesting discussions and activities.

The topics covered in this presentation include:

  • a brief history of time
  • the development of the 12 hour and 24 hour calendar
  • the development of the clock, sundial, and water clock
  • Time zones around the world
  • Calculating time differences between countries
