An advent calendar style poster for students to identify, inquire about and collect information that relates to the Australian Gold Rush.

This teaching resource is an activity designed to help students engage with historical facts and concepts that relate to the Australian Gold Rush.

Print this poster-style activity in A3 and display it in the classroom. Each gold nugget on the poster features a fact. Students will need to pay attention to details given that help them place the right facts in the right places. When students think they know the answer, they write or paste the answer over the relevant gold nugget. By the end of the Australian Gold Rush unit, students will have all their gold nuggets full of interesting facts they have learned.

This advent calendar is included in Teach Starter’s Australian Gold Rush unit. However, it may also be used as an independent task, either in conjunction with Australian Gold Rush teaching presentations or by having students independently research the facts and record their progress on individual A4 versions of the poster. It may also be set up as a side activity or class competition.
