Our Solar System cloze worksheet for your students to complete.

Worksheet information:

Our Solar System is made up of eight planets and many smaller objects that orbit around the Sun.

The Sun is a star at the centre of the Solar System. It weighs approximately 330,000 times the mass of Earth.

The eight planets are the largest objects that orbit the Sun. The four smaller planets closest to the Sun are Mercury, Venus, Earth and Mars. These four ‘terrestrial planets’ are primarily made up of rock and metal.

The four outer planets, called the ‘gas giants’ are substantially larger than the terrestrials. The two largest are Jupiter and Saturn, composed mainly of hydrogen and helium. The two outermost are Uranus and Neptune, composed largely of ices, including frozen water, ammonia and methane.

All planets have almost circular orbits around the Sun, within a nearly flat disc called the ecliptic plane.

Our Solar System is located within one of the outer arms of the Milky Way galaxy, which contains about 200 billion stars.
