What Are the Responsibilities of the Australian Federal Government?

Australia has three levels of government – local government, state government and federal government. Each level of government has a specific role and provides specific services to members of the Australian public.

The federal government in Australia sits above the state and local governments. It makes laws for Australia, and collects taxes to be spent on services for Australians. The leader of the federal government of Austrlia is the prime minister.
