Let’s Be Social – Stories for the Classroom

Teaching children to apologise is an important part of their social and emotional development. In the classroom, there are some ways we can teach students to apologise in an appropriate way.

  • Explain why it is important to apologise. Let students know that apologising shows that they care about other people’s feelings and want to make things right.
  • Teach students to use the words ‘I’m sorry’ when they apologise. Encourage them to say it sincerely and to mean it.
  • Encourage empathy by helping students understand how their actions have affected others.

Teach Starter has created a printable mini-book to help your students discover appropriate ways to apologise to their peers and friends. Each page is designed in a simple manner with real-life photographs to help students make connections and understand the examples.

The last page of the mini-book also poses a question with three picture choices for students to choose from as their answer.
