A set of 9 posters examining different styles of poetry.

The nine styles include:

Acrostic
A poem where a letter in each line forms a word or phrase when read in sequence.

Ballad
A rhythmic poem that tells a story. Ballads are often used in songs.

Haiku
A Japanese poem that consists of 3 lines and 17 syllables.

Limerick
A funny or unusual poem that consists of five lines.

Ode
A lyric poem usually about a particular person or thing.

Riddle
A poem that describes something without actually naming what it is.

Cinquain
A five-line poem that contains vivid imagery and conveys a certain mood or emotion.

Kennings
A poem made up of several stanzas of two describing words.

Diamante

A poem comparing two subjects that is shaped like a diamond.
