Subitising is the process of immediately recognising how many items are in a small group.

This process is best observed while playing a game with dice. When a die is rolled, we immediately recognise the pattern on the face as a number, without needing to count the number of dots.

The following cards can be used as flash cards to practise recognising different patterns.

The cards can also be used in conjunction with a series of questions:

– How many dots are there?
– How many blue dots are there?
– How many orange dots are there?
– How many red dots are there?
– How many hollow dots are there?
– How many solid dots are there?
– How many red and blue dots are there?
– Add two or more cards together
