Teach an Attitude of Gratitude

In a time when children want expensive shoes and the latest iPhone, teaching gratitude can be an uphill battle. But did you know that studies show gratitude is linked to happiness starting at the age of 5? This means that teaching our students to be grateful can help them grow up to be happier. Who doesn’t want that?

Fun Thankfulness Activities for Kids – Getting Started

Have your students start by thinking of anything at all in their lives that they feel thankful for. Maybe it is the warm meal the cafeteria lady served them this morning or the high-five that the crossing guard gave as they crossed the busy street. During this exercise, help your students to understand that gratitude is more than being thankful for the physical items they are given. It is also about focusing on the little things people do for them. Once they’ve done this, they’re ready to begin!

How to Play the Gratitude Game

Use this fun dice game to jump-start a grateful mindset in your students. This game is played with 2–4 players, and the dotted dice are included in the download. Students take turns rolling the dotted dice and naming something they are grateful for according to the color they have rolled.
