Very Important Verbs – Verbs Review Worksheet

Verbs are the backbone of every sentence. Yet, teachers across the country still struggle with getting students to retain their learning about this part of speech. Students need practice, visuals, and relevant materials to work with. That is where this worksheet comes in.

This worksheet has students working within the story of the Gingerbread Man. They will read and complete sentences from the story by adding relevant and correct verbs to each sentence.

This worksheet comes in multiple forms for differentiation and modification. It is downloadable as a cloze activity with images, a non-cloze activity with images, and as a version that removes all images and can be geared toward older students. It is also available in Google Slides format.

Scaffolding & Extension Tips

In addition to independent student work time, use this worksheet as an activity for:

Fast finishers can continue their learning after completing this sheet. Have them retell another story that they know using simple sentences, and identify the verbs within each sentence.

Students needing additional instruction or assistance can work with a partner, use read-aloud accommodations, or work in a one-on-one setting to help them be successful with the content.
