Use this teaching resource when studying color as one of the Elements of Visual Art. Students paint sections of a simple picture in complementary, harmonious (analogous), and monochromatic colors.
Complementary colors are any two colors that are found directly opposite each other on the color wheel. Those colors that are located beside each other on the color wheel are known as ‘harmonious’ or ‘analogous.’ The term ‘monochromatic’ refers to tints, shades, and tones of a single color. These variations are achieved through the addition of black, white, or gray to the color.
