What is NAIDOC Week All About?

NAIDOC Week celebrates and honours Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. The week occurs annually in July, usually including the second Friday. This day was historically celebrated as ‘National Aboriginal Day’. NAIDOC Week allows all Australians to recognise the history and achievements of our First Nations peoples.

Explore the NAIDOC Week Theme With Your Students

Each year, the National NAIDOC Committee (NNC) selects a theme for NAIDOC Week. This worksheet has been designed to assist you in unpacking the annual theme with your students. The students are required to:

  • find out the current theme
  • highlight the keywords in the theme
  • discuss and define the keywords
  • summarise the main idea of the theme.

Students are also encouraged to make their own posters to promote the NAIDOC Week theme at their school.

A Great Addition to Your Collection of First Nations Resources

This teaching resource addresses the cross-curricular priority of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Histories and Culture.
