A 60 minute lesson in which students will revise and consolidate the concept of mass.

Revisit the Elephant Mass Song video on YouTube. After watching, discuss and revise key vocabulary e.g. mass, heavy, light.
Ask the students to explain how masses can be measured and compared. Use a set of balance scales to model how to measure and compare masses of small objects.
Explain to the students that, during this lesson, they will be completing a number of activities to revise mass. Describe each of the activities listed below. Allow the students to ask questions and/or seek clarification where necessary.
Play the online game Balance the Scales on the Maths Zone website by balancing the scales using the blocks.
Place four or five objects in order from lightest to heaviest, using the balance scales to compare the masses of the objects.
Play the online game Mass Attack on the Crazy Monkey Games website by matching the masses on the balance scales.
Complete the online activity Seesaw Logic on the Maths Playground website by using the diagrams to work out which object is the heaviest.
Monitor and support the students as they complete the activities. These can be completed as whole class exercises or as small group rotations (mixed ability groups are recommended). Each task should take approximately 5-10 minutes to complete.
Gather the class together and invite the students to share their experiences of the activities. Revise the definition of mass and check for any misconceptions.
Encourage more capable students to assist less confident peers during group work.
Allow less confident students to be supported by more capable peers during group work.
