PDF | 9 pages|Grades: 5 - 7

Students work together to read and solve the problems one at a time. When they think they have the answer to a problem, they look around the room for an envelope with their answer and the next story part. If their answer is correct, they get the next part of the story. If their answer is incorrect, the story comes to a tragic end, giving the students the opportunity to correct their mistake.

A story in 4 parts (4 problems), an epilogue, common wrong answers, and story parts that lead to a tragic end for the wrong answers.

Use in small groups and with the whole class.

This activity includes clear and concise teacher directions, story parts, and conversation starters that give students what they need to have meaningful academic discussions.
