Learn how to measure and convert time with this 14-slide instructional slide deck.

⏰ It’s TIME to Practice Measurement Conversions!

When students enter elementary school, they learn a variety of concepts related to time. Students first learn about the parts of a clock, how to tell time, calculate elapsed time, and so on. Once your students enter the intermediate grades, they may be ready for a new skill, time conversions

Some students may ask, “How do you convert time?”. In practice, there isn’t a one-size-fits-all answer. You will be teaching your students when to use multiplication to convert time and when to use division. Additionally, the number you multiply or divide will depend on which unit of time you are working with.

If you are thinking that your students need to practice this skill, then worry no more! Teach Starter has an instructional slide deck to help your students with these skills.

With this instructional slide deck, students will cover topics such as:

  • Largest and smallest units of time
  • Units of time used during the day
  • Units of time used over a year
  • Conversions between units of time

Through this activity, students will show they can convert measurements of time from a smaller unit to a larger unit or a larger unit to a smaller unit.

Tips for Differentiation + Scaffolding

A team of dedicated, experienced educators created this resource to support your math lessons.

In addition to individual student work time, use this instructional slide deck which focuses on measuring and converting time to enhance learning through guided math groups, whole class lessons, or remote learning assignments.

If you have a mixture of above and below-level learners, check out these suggestions for keeping students on track with the concepts:

🆘 Support Struggling Students

Help students who need help understanding the concepts by breaking down the types of conversions presented within the instructional slide deck. Students may need extra practice converting seconds to minutes first and then may be ready to convert minutes into hours.

➕ Challenge Fast Finishers

For students who need a bit of a challenge, encourage them to write their own conversion problems, trade with a classmate, and solve them.
