Vibrant 'Very' Varieties – States of Mind

Teach Starter Publishing
PDF | 1 page | Grades: 3 - 6

A word wheel of synonyms and similar words used instead of 'very' words to describe states of mind.

When students are writing narrative text, they can refer to this wheel to help them choose the best words to use when writing descriptive language.

How this resource works:

  • The words in the center ring are a guide for finding alternative ‘very’ words.
  • The words in the second ring are common synonyms for the word ‘very’.
  • The words in the outer ring are more descriptive and should only be used when students are wanting to be very descriptive in their writing.

Print on letter-size paper and have the students glue it into their writing journal for future reference.
