Episode 21

Rob Hunter Taught and Inspired for 40 Years

Recorded by | Run time: 16 min, 51 sec

Summary

Australia was shocked by the brazen country school kidnappings of the 1970s. Rob Hunter, a 20 year old in his first fortnight of teaching, was confronted at gunpoint and kidnapped with his nine young students. Rob’s (reluctantly) a true hero of our profession. Be sure to listen to the previous episode to catch up on Rob’s incredible story.

This week, I speak with Rob about how he healed himself and how he now helps adolescent students heal their own emotional hurt in his school visit program, Kidnapped Teacher Talks. Rob’s seminars focus on four key elements which students can use as a model to overcome their own traumas. He uses metaphorical language and a down-to-earth delivery to connect with secondary school students.

Rob’s book, Day 9 at Woreen, is available on his website and at Booktopia.
