Encouraging Children to Ask for Help

This activity promotes critical thinking, empathy, and encourages students to express their opinions through visual storytelling. It also aligns with the 2024 Tes Safeguarding Awareness Week theme “Everyone has the right to feel safe,” reinforcing the idea that asking for help is an essential part of ensuring personal safety.

Are you discussing with your pupils how and when to request assistance? This comic strip template is an excellent method for students to demonstrate their understanding while providing a real-life example through a comic strip. Encourage their creativity by drawing and sharing through a comic:

  • When to ask for help.
  • How to ask for help.
  • Who to go to for help.
  • How it feels when you ask for help.

Asking for Help Lesson Idea

After discussing the different elements of asking for help from a trusted adult using these classroom posters, brainstorm different reasons for needing help, how to ask for help, who you can go to for help and how it feels when they ask for help as a class.

Then, have your pupils complete this comic strip using the information the class has brainstormed; you might like to have them share their comic strips with a partner.
