Get to Know Your Pupils on Day 1

We all know that pupil interest and instruction are closely linked. The more interested a pupil is in the content, the more engaged they will be in the learning, and the easier it will be for them to connect to new ideas. Therefore, taking time during the initial getting-to-know-you period at the beginning of the school year is crucial.

Use this simple pupil interest survey with your pupils during the first week of school to:

  • Establish and maintain a positive relationship with your pupils.
  • Mould your instruction to meet the individual needs and preferences of each of your pupils throughout the school year. This will help you to really motivate those hard-to-reach children.

Once the surveys are complete, file them away in your pupil files to be able to refer back to throughout the year.

NOTE: For your reception and Year 1 students, you will want to read each question aloud to your class and give them time to circle their answers before moving on to the next.
