Lesson 4: Bullying and Our Emotions
60 minutes | Suitable for Grade: 2 - LowerA 60 minute lesson in which students will identify different emotions and how bullying can make a person feel.

Lesson Plan
Tuning In
- Students watch and listen to the following videos, Bring It Down – Flowย andย Angry Sea – The Perfect Storm in Realityย on YouTube. At the end of the videos, ask the students:
- How did you feel when you were watching Bring It Down-Flow?
- How did you feel when you were watching Angry Sea-The Perfect Storm in Reality?
- Which video describes how bullying could make you feel?
Teacher Instruction
- Display and discuss slides 13-16 of the Building Resilience PowerPoint.ย Ensure that the students understand:
- that emotions are feelings that people have at different times
- that bullying can make people feel angry, lonely, sad, etc…
- that it is easier to deal with bullying when feeling calm.
Guided/Independent Learning
- Display and discuss the images on slide 15. Provide the students with a copy of the Visual Literacy Graphic Organiser. Ask the students to draw their own calm and angry images in the glasses and describe their emotional response to the pictures.ย Monitor and support the students as they complete the activity.
- Once the students have finished, encourage more confident students to share their emotional responses with the class.
Wrapping Up
- Display and discuss slide 17. As a class, choose and try one of the staying calm strategies.
Differentiation
Extending Students
- Encourage more confident students to use descriptive paragraphs in their independent task.
Supporting Students
- Encourage less confident students to use key words for the independent task or to work with a peer.
