Full Day Plan
Mark the roll and record any absences on the Supply Teaching Day Feedback Form. Identify any students with special educational needs and ensure you are aware of any assistance they may require throughout the day.
Rules and Routines
Establish rules and expectations for the day with the students. Familiarise yourself with the regular routines of the class, as well as any additional activities happening during the day e.g. assembly.
Literacy – Grammar and Phonics
Provide each student with a game board from the Initial Letter Bingo. Pick a card from the pile and call out the sound of the letter. Students put a marker over the corresponding answer if they have it on their game board. When the students have covered three squares in a row, they call out ‘Bingo!’. The first person to call out is the winner.
Literacy – Writing Task
Display the Narrative Sentence Starter Cards on the board. As a class, choose one of the sentence starters and brainstorm a list of possible settings, characters, problems and solutions. Using the suggestions, jointly construct a short narrative. If time permits, provide each student with a copy of the Story Map Template. Ask the students to choose another sentence starter and then plan a simple narrative, using pictures or words. Encourage volunteers to share their ideas with the class.
Numeracy – Number and Place Value
As a class, count forwards and backwards by ones to 20 from 0. Divide the class into small groups. Provide each group with a copy of the 0-10 Number Matching Game. Monitor and support the students as they work together to match the number symbols with the dice image, picture and word. When they have finished, discuss the answers as a class.
Numeracy – Addition and Subtraction
Display on the board an example of a problem from the Picture Addition Worksheet and solve the problem together as a class. Provide each student with a copy of the worksheet. Monitor and support the students as they independently solve the picture addition problems. Once they have finished, discuss the answers together as a class. If time permits, ask the students to draw their own picture addition problems in their workbooks for a partner to solve.
Literacy – Shared Reading
Choose a picture book to read and share with the students.
The Arts – Visual Arts
Revise with the students the features of a face and demonstrate how to draw a self portrait. Provide each student with a copy of the Self Portrait Worksheet. Monitor and support the students as they use pencils to draw their own self portrait. When they have finished, encourage volunteers to share their self portraits with the class.
