Full Day Plan
Mark the roll and record any absences on the Supply Teaching Day Feedback Form. Identify any students with special educational needs and ensure you are aware of any assistance they may require throughout the day.
Rules and Routines
Establish rules and expectations for the day with the students. Familiarise yourself with the regular routines of the class, as well as any additional activities happening during the day e.g. assembly.
Literacy – Spelling
Provide each student with a CVC Word – Playdough Mat or CVCC and CCVC Words – Playdough Mat and some playdough. Ask the students to use the playdough to make the word on the mat, then say the word to a partner. Monitor and support the students as they make their words. Rotate the playdough mats through the class when required.
Literacy – Writing
Randomly show the CVC CCVC CVCC Flashcards to the students. As a whole class, read each word. When appropriate, act out the word. Display the flashcards on the board and provide each of the students with a copy of the CVC CCVC and CVCC Sentence Worksheet. Ask the students to pick a word from the board, then use the word to write a sentence and draw a picture. Monitor and support the students as they independently complete the task. When the students have finished, encourage volunteers to share their sentences with the class.
Numeracy – Number and Place Value
As a class, count forwards and backwards by ones from 0 to 20. Randomly call out a number between 1 and 10. Ask the students to use their fingers to represent the numbers. Provide each of the students with a copy of the Colour Counting Worksheet. Instruct the students to colour in the corresponding amount next to each number. Monitor and support the students as they independently complete the task. Correct the worksheet as a class, encouraging volunteers to share their thought-processes.
Numeracy – Shape
Revise with the students the features of a square, circle, rectangle and triangle. Place the students into small groups and provide each group with a copy of the Shape Sort Game. Monitor and support the students as they work together to sort the everyday objects onto the corresponding shape mat. Share and discuss the answers as a class. If time permits, ask the students to draw each of the shapes in their workbooks with a matching everyday object.
Literacy – Shared Reading
Choose a picture book to read and share with the students.
The Arts – Drama
Ask the students to act out the following animals: monkey, pig, cheetah and zebra. Provide each student with five clothes pegs and a cut out, laminated copy of one of the animals from the Fine Motor Animal Match-Up Activity. Ask the students to attach the legs and tail of their animal to the body. Place the students into small groups. Encourage the students to swap legs and tails with their peers to make a funny animal. If time permits, ask the students to work with their group to create a play, using their animals, to share with the class.
