Lesson 3: My Week at Home
A 30 minute lesson in which students will choose events and actions that make connections with students’ everyday family routines.
This lesson plan includes the following resources:
Preparation
Clarify whether your school or region considers Sunday or Monday as the first day of the week. In either case, knowing the days of the week in the correct order, regardless of the starting point, is the main objective.Lesson Plan
Tuning In
- Watch the Days of the Week Rap Back video on YouTube. Encourage the students to sing along and ‘rap back’ the days of the week.
Teacher Instruction
- Revise the previous lesson by recalling the particular activities at school that take place on certain days of the week.
- Watch The 7 Days of the Week video on YouTube. Afterwards, discuss with the students some of the particular activities that they complete on certain days at home (or away from school).
- Model on the board how to list or draw some examples of these activities for each day of the week (from Monday through to Sunday).
Guided/Independent Learning
- Distribute the My Week at Home Worksheet to the students. Monitor and support the students as they independently complete the worksheet.
Wrapping Up
- Gather the class back together and encourage the students to share their responses. Note the similarities and differences in the responses shared.
Differentiation
Extending Students
- Encourage more capable students to assist less confident students with the worksheet.
Supporting Students
- Allow less confident students to be supported by more capable students when completing the worksheet.
