Full Day Plan
Mark the roll and record any absences on the Supply Teaching Day Feedback Form. Identify any students with special educational needs and ensure you are aware of any assistance they may require throughout the day.
Rules and Routines
Establish rules and expectations for the day with the students. Familiarise yourself with the regular routines of the class, as well as any additional activities happening during the day e.g. assembly.
Literacy – Spelling
Display the 30 Word Wall Task Cards on the board. Allow the students to pick a task card to complete, using vocabulary on display in the classroom or in an appropriate book. Once they have completed a task, allow the students to choose a new task from the board or swap cards with a peer. Once the students have finished, encourage the students to share their work with the class.
Literacy – Writing Task
Use the Teach Starter Random Sentence Starter as a writing prompt to display on the board. As a class, brainstorm a list of possible settings, characters and problems. Ask the students to independently write an imaginative text using the random sentence starter and the suggestions made during the brainstorm. Once they have finished, encourage volunteers to share their stories with the class.
Numeracy – Number and Place Value
Provide each student with a game board from the Doubles Bingo. Pick a card from the pile and call out the number. Students put a marker over the corresponding answer if they have it on their game board. When the students have covered three squares in a row, they call out ‘Bingo!’. The first person to call out is the winner.
Numeracy – Fractions and Decimals
Revise the concept of a whole, halves, quarters and eighths with the class. Place the students into small groups. Provide each group with a copy of the Fractions Pizza Game – Lower Grades. Monitor and support the students as they play the game. Once the students have finished, conduct a discussion with the class about the thought-processes used by the students while playing the game.
Literacy – Independent or Shared Reading
Allow the students to independently read an appropriate book of their choice. Alternatively, choose a book to read and share with the students.
The Arts – Drama
Choose one of the activities from the Icebreaker Game Cards. Create space inside the classroom, or go outside to the playground to play the game. If time permits, choose multiple games to play.
