A set of 20 task cards to use when teaching students about empathy.

Empathy is a skill that does not come naturally to all students. It is a crucial life skill that significantly helps students with their social skills.

These task cards provide students with a series of short scenarios. The students are required to look at each situation through the lens of empathy, then attempt to ‘walk in the shoes’ of the person in the situation.

How To Use This Resource

These task cards could be used in a number of ways. You could:

  • Display the task cards on your interactive whiteboard. Have the class read and discuss the scenarios, taking turns to share their ideas.
  • Divide the class into groups, then provide each group with a different scenario. Have the groups read and discuss their scenario, then report back to the class.
  • Provide individual students with a scenario. Have the students compose a written reflection about how they might act in the situation they have been given.
