Addition Strategies: Using Doubles Worksheet

Teach Starter Publishing
PDF | 1 page | Years: 1 - 2

Consolidate your students' understanding of the 'near doubles' addition strategy with this basic worksheet.

This worksheet is best used as independent practice as part of your Mathematics lesson.

Students use doubles facts to work out the answers to the near doubles addition problems.

Addition Strategies Worksheet: Scaffolding and Extension Tips

Encourage students who require an additional challenge to write their own word problems for each of the addition sums on the worksheet.

You may like to provide students who need extra support with a number line or with manipulatives (such as blocks or counters) to help them add the numbers.

Preparing This Resource

Because this resource includes an answer sheet, we recommend you print one copy of the entire file. Then, make photocopies of the blank worksheet for students to complete.

You can also turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity! Print a few copies on cardstock and slip them into dry-erase sleeves. Students can record their answers with a dry-erase marker, then erase and reuse.

Additionally, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through it as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks.
