Material Sorting Worksheets for Year 4

Give your students a hands‑on, engaging way to explore the properties of natural and manmade materials with this complete set of Material Sorting Worksheets. Designed for Year Four science lessons, these printables help students identify the materials from which everyday items are made (fibres, metals, glass, plastics, and natural materials) and understand why different materials are chosen for different purposes.

With four Material Sorting Worksheets, students get regular practise viewing, classifying, and reasoning about materials in the planet around them.

Identifying Materials Worksheet Pack for Classroom Science Lessons

This worksheet pack includes four different activities, each zeroing in on a key skill in material identification and classification:

  • Colour-by-Code Material Identification Worksheet – Students examine everyday objects, determine the material each one is made from, and colour the picture using a material‑based code.
  • Material Matching Worksheet – Students match objects to the materials they are made from.
  • Material Classification Worksheet – Students sort a list of objects into the correct material category.
  • Cut‑and‑Paste Sorting Worksheet – Students cut out object pictures and paste them into the correct material column.
