Roll Call
Mark the roll and record any absences on the Supply Teaching Day Feedback Form. Identify any students with special educational needs and ensure you are aware of any assistance they may require throughout the day.
Rules and Routines
Establish rules and expectations for the day with the students. Familiarise yourself with the regular routines of the class, as well as any additional activities happening during the day e.g. assembly.
Morning Session
Literacy – Reading Comprehension
Distribute a copy of the Comprehension – The Three Little Pigs to the students. Read the text as a class. Monitor and support the students as they independently complete the comprehension questions. Once the students have finished, discuss the answers as a class.
Literacy – Writing Task
As a class, brainstorm alternate versions of The Three Little Pigs. Ask the students to independently write their own version of the story. Once they have finished, encourage volunteers to share their stories with the class.
Middle Session
Numeracy – Number and Place Value
Display the Maths Brain Teasers – Middle Primary problems on the board. As a class, work through each problem. Encourage the students to share their thought-processes before giving the correct answer.
Numeracy – Number and Place Value
Provide each student with a copy of the Polygon Puzzles – Multiplication Worksheets with Answers. Only give students the answer sheet once they have completed the activity. Monitor and support the students as they connect each polygon with the correct answer. Once they have finished, go through the answers together as a class. If time permits, students can complete the Polygon Puzzles – Division Worksheets.
Afternoon Session
Literacy – Independent or Shared Reading
Allow the students to independently read an appropriate book of their choice. Alternatively, choose a book to read and share with the students.
Design and Technologies – Plan and Create
Provide each student with a blank board game template from the 4 Blank Game Boards – Colourful Patterns. Students use the blank template to design and make their own board game. When finished, students can play each other’s board games in small groups.
