Addition Strategies: Base-Ten Blocks Worksheet

Teach Starter Publishing
PDF | 2 pages | Years: 1 - 2

Practice using the strategy of using base-10 blocks and regrouping to find the sum.

This worksheet is best used as independent practice when working on addition strategies.

Students solve a number sentence by regrouping base-10 blocks and then drawing a picture of their regrouping.

Addition Strategy Worksheet: Scaffolding & Extension Tips

In addition to individual student work time, use this regrouping worksheet as a:

  • Maths group activity
  • Post-lesson exit ticket
  • Homework task
  • Whole-class review (via interactive whiteboard)

Got fast finishers? Students who need a challenge can use the base-10 blocks model to solve their own 2-digit addition problems.

Students who need extra support can use actual base-10 blocks to represent the numbers and solve the problems.

A Variety of Ways to Prepare This Resource

Because this resource includes an answer sheet, we recommend you print one copy of the entire file. Then make photocopies of the blank worksheet for students to complete.

You can also turn this teaching resource into a sustainable activity! Print a few copies on cardstock and slip them into write and wipe sleeves. Students can record their answers with a whiteboard marker, then erase and reuse.

Alternatively, project the worksheet onto a screen and work through it as a class by having students record their answers in their notebooks.
