Teach your students about how we grow and change during childhood with a fun-sized mini book perfect for the early years.

A Mini Book Focused on Growth and Change

Understanding growth and change is a crucial concept for young learners. It helps children recognise their own development and understand that abilities evolve over time. By reflecting on what they could do at different ages, students gain a sense of personal history, build self-awareness and develop an appreciation for their ongoing growth.

Our experienced teacher team has designed this mini-book to help your students reflect on how they have grown and changed during their lives so far. Over eight A5-sized pages, students will draw and write on pages containing the following prompts:

  • When I was born, I could…
  • When I was 6 months old, I could…
  • When I was 1 year old, I could…
  • When I was 2 years old, I could…
  • When I was 3 years old, I could…
  • When I was 4 years old, I could…
  • When I was 5 years old, I could…

This resource downloads as either a colour or black-and-white PDF.

This growth and change mini book is the perfect resource to use when teaching your students about their unique personal development journeys.

Multiple Applications for This Growth and Change Mini Book

Here are some suggestions as to how you might use this growth and change mini book in your lessons:

  1. Class Discussion and Sharing – Once the students have completed the mini book, have them choose their favourite page to share with the class. During the discussion, draw students’ attention to the similarities and differences in their experiences, highlighting the unique ways that each student has grown and changed.
  2. Timeline Class Display – Instead of turning the pages into a mini book, use them to create a personal timeline for each student to display on a classroom bulletin board.
  3. Family Involvement – Have the students take their mini books home so they can get feedback from their family about when they achieved certain milestones. Family members could even add their own memories of the child at each age to the books, making the activity more personal and engaging.
