Identify native and introduced species in Australia with a printable Native or Non-Native Animals Sorting Game.

Sort Native and Non-Native Australian Animals With Ease

This printable Native and Non-Native Australian Animals Sorting Activity is designed to help your budding scientists develop their scientific thinking and awareness of the world. This hands-on sorting activity, created specifically for Foundation and early primary learners, helps students develop their classification skills while introducing them to both Australian native animals and those that are not.

Students work on recognising features, comparing organisms, and arranging them according to their natural environments with clear visuals and easy sorting tasks.

Hands-On Animal Sorting for Early Learners

This sorting activity invites students to examine a variety of animal picture cards and decide whether each animal is native to Australia or non-native. The task encourages discussion, reasoning, and vocabulary development as students explain their thought processes and reasoning behind their choices.

Students will:

  • Observe and compare animals
  • Sort animals into native and non-native categories
  • Practice early science classification skills
  • Build awareness of Australian wildlife

The activity works beautifully as an individual task, small-group centre, or whole-class sorting discussion.
